The Letterarian

Artist. Keeper of letters…

Sir George Martin

I woke up this morning to the news that Sir George Martin had died at the age of 90. I have always loved learning about the collaboration and production feats of Sir George with the Beatles, and do regard him as the fifth Beatle. I always thought of him as a genius producer… A Day in the Life is, to me, the BEST production from the Beatles catalog of amazing works.

A working model….

Preliminary model for a new body of work forthcoming. Happy with the progress…. Loving the process involved in working on this new project!

Letters, words…notes, music…

Letters are as important to a writer as musical notes are to a musician. Each is a conduit for expression. In music, you may hear and listen to the composition of notes played; in writing, you may see, read and think about the text the writer has composed with letters. Writing comes from thought, and music from sound. Words will mean nothing unless they’ve been read. Music will fall flat and mean nothing unless it’s been heard.

May day…

It’s a beautiful Spring day today – love it! The beauty of nature inspires me to begin some new work. A poem, an essay, a new chap book design… perhaps all three!
